Ed Banger fans (and French electronic music producers) rejoice because you have taken over the house, hipster, and electro-clash scenes simultaneously. Digitalism makes little effort to mask the influence of Daft Punk on their sound. If you're a fan of that dramatic, looped-out, filtered disco sound, then you'll likely be a fan of the "Mix4FarleyGrrlz" mix from the German duo.

While last year’s Idealism explored the grimier, more heavily filtered electro side of the sound that Justice brought to US mainstream audiences with their debut release last year, this mix takes it down a few notches. If a disco DJ from the '70s was resurrected and given a crash course in Serato or Torq, this is probably the set he would play.

This mix is also right in the thick of the line-blurring going on between dance music and indie, with Hercules & Love Affair and Calvin Harris mingling with Hot Chip, Spank Rock and The B-52’s. Whether or not the result appeases fans of either genre is difficult to discern.

The mixing is fairly straightforward, even if the programming leaves the progression a bit too schizophrenic to actually call it a build. It does pick up about three-quarters in when Hot Chip shows up. It’s here that Digitalism finally unleashes some of the dirty sensibilities that made Idealism stand out from the pack of Ed Banger wannabes. The Kills "Cheap and Cheerful" is perhaps the best track on the mix, and inserted at the perfect juncture. Followed by a short CSS remix of The B-52's "Funplex," the mix quickly transitions into Proxy’s ”Dance in the Dark” and finally hits its dance floor stride.

Everything prior to that stretch is serviceable lounge music (Shadowdancer's "Cowbois" is a definite stand-out). A collection of solid tracks, just ones that don't have much to do with one another. It leaves one with the same feeling as a burrito bowl at Chipotle: pretty tasty on the way down, but ultimately an unsatisfactory mish-mash because it needed something else to tie it all together.
