Ian Wright started collecting 45s in the late 80s as the rare groove scene was flourishing. The following few years led to him feverishly snapping up as many funk 45s as possible. In 1995 he then teamed up with the legendary Keb Darge to launch a club night, simply entitled Deep Funk. As the popularity of the night grew Ian began to move slightly into the background, concentrating on re-mixing and re-editing 45s for Kebs Deep Funk and Funk Spectrum compilations. 2000 saw the release of his own compilation, Natural Funk Killa, which was the biggest seller on the Soul Patrol label. His reputation as an influential collector in the funk scene was confirmed by his features and playlists in Big Daddy magazine. Ian has now embarked on his first compilation for BBE. Sister Funk is a compilation of 20 storming tracks by a selection of mainly 60s soul divas who sing as if their lives depended on it. With this album, Ian has given us an exclusive look into his record collection and provided us with just a slice of his rarest female funk.
