Yesterday's New Quintet is the invention of super producer, Madlib. The quintet is comprised of five separate 'Lib aliases. Dudes a fucking nut. That aside, 'Yesterday's Universe' is one of the most original releases to come out of 2007. Here we find the man slicing and dicing jazz standards and obscure vault tracks alike. Each song is performed by a 'different' member of the quintet, creating opposing lead styles, the aspect that really gives this album its edge. Apparently this will be the final release from Yesterday's New Quintet, but I doubt this will be Madlib's final voyage into the realms of jazz.
